FAQ
From fine jewelry and diamond upkeep to personal engraving, we know how meaningful every detail of your jewelry is. Explore our FAQs below—and if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, we’re just an email or phone call away.
How do I schedule a design consultation?
Simply visit our Bespoke Engagement Ring Design or Bespoke Jewelry Design pages to submit an inquiry. Once received, we’ll follow up to answer any initial questions and coordinate a day and time to connect—either by phone or video chat.
How long does it take to make a bespoke piece?
All of our jewelry is handcrafted and made to-order. Once the design details are finalized, most pieces are completed and delivered within 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design. Precision and care are at the heart of every creation.
Can I provide my own center stone?
Yes—we can reset your diamond or precious gemstone(s). However, there is a specific process in place to ensure everything aligns with our quality standards and values. Please visit our Bespoke Engagement Ring Design or Bespoke Jewelry Design page to submit an inquiry, and include any relevant information (such as stone details, certification, or GIA documentation). We’ll provide tailored guidance from there.
How do I know my ring size?
We’re happy to help you find your perfect fit. Whether you're stacking rings or dealing with fit issues like spinning or side to-side movement, we can offer personalized guidance.
We also offer a complimentary ring sizer you can use from the comfort of your home. Just reach out to us by phone or email, and we’ll send one your way.
How can I resize my engagement ring?
We offer one (1) complimentary resizing for engagement rings and non-eternity bands. This service is available within two (2) months of delivery, and includes sizing up or down by up to ¾ size from the original. This limit helps preserve the structural integrity of the ring.
Our resizing process also includes complimentary insured shipping (both ways within the U.S.), along with a professional cleaning and inspection of your ring. Please Contact Us to begin the resizing process.
To protect your ring during transit, we ask that you return it in the original packaging or follow our double-boxing guidelines. Aurelia Atelier is not responsible for damage caused by improper packaging, so please take care when preparing your return.
Please note:
- We cannot resize eternity bands (rings with diamonds set all the way
around the band) to preserve stone alignment and structural integrity. - If your desired adjustment is larger than ¾ size, we’ll provide an
estimate based on additional labor and material costs required.
Are your diamonds ethically sourced?
Yes! Rest assured, all lab‑grown diamonds we source are exclusively from leading manufacturers who cultivate, cut, and polish diamonds under one roof, using responsible production standards. Many comply with the Responsible Jewelry Councils Laboratory Grown Materials Standard (LGMS)—which enforces robust social, environmental, and human‑rights transparency across the supply chain.
Every White lab grown diamond center stone (over 1.00+ Carats) is GIA certified Premium (D Color / VVS Clarity combined with Excellent Cut, Polish and Symmetry).
GIA Lab Grown Diamonds that are graded as Standard (E-J Color / VS Clarity) are available upon request. We will provide guidance and pricing.
***
If you prefer natural diamonds. We work only with trusted suppliers who adhere to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, ensuring every diamond is conflict‑free, responsibly mined, and not associated with human rights abuses or environmental harm.
Every natural diamond center stone (over 1.00 Carats) would be GIA‑certified, reflecting the highest standards of grading and traceability for the 4Cs - Clarity, Cut, Color, and Carat weight.
Why it matters:
Ethically sourced diamonds—from certified natural stones to responsibly produced lab grown gems—ensure that your piece reflects values of environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
What are the 4Cs?
Cut grade, Carat weight, Color grade and Clarity grade. Today, the 4Cs of diamond quality are the universal method for assessing the quality of any diamond. The creation of the Diamond 4Cs mean two very important things: diamond quality can be communicated in a universal language, and diamond customers know exactly the quality of the diamond they are purchasing.
What is the quality of the accent diamonds (and pavé) used within your jewelry?
We exclusively set colorless (D-F), VS+ Clarity accent diamonds and pavé to ensure the best quality and sparkle.
Do you offer engraving on engagement rings?
Yes! Laser engraving is complimentary for engagement rings and wedding bands at the time of purchase.
We accommodate up to 15 characters in Times New Roman font for clean, elegant inscriptions. This helps ensure legibility and precision.
What is a jeweler's hallmark?
A hallmark is a tiny stamp or laser engraving applied to each piece to show it was handcrafted by our artisans and to signify metal quality. At Aurelia Atelier, our hallmark is “AA”—a maker’s mark that represents our craftsmanship.
Hallmarks serve as a symbol of authenticity, often paired with purity marks (such as PT or 18K) or assay-stamp indicators depending on jurisdiction, ensuring traceability and consumer trust.
What is the warranty policy on my jewelry?
We confidently stand behind the quality of our craftsmanship. Aurelia Atelier offers a complimentary lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on all jewelry pieces. This applies only to issues arising from manufacturing.
Excluded from coverage are items damaged through everyday wear or misuse—such as:
- Scratches, dents, or warped metal
- Discoloration due to chemical contact
- Lost or cracked stones, missing gems
- Lost or stolen pieces
We recommend having your jewelry professionally inspected, cleaned, and tightened every two (2) years to maintain its beauty and longevity.
Do You Offer Appraisals?
While Aurelia Atelier does not include an independent appraisal with purchases, most insurance providers will accept a detailed sales receipt as sufficient documentation for coverage—especially for pieces valued under $5,000. Appraisal services are typically recommended for higher-value items or coverage beyond standard limits.
If you’d like a formal appraisal for insurance or estate planning, you may engage a third‑party certified appraiser, such as a Graduate Gemologist Appraiser (GG) or Certified Insurance Appraiser (CIA) — professionals trained in creating unbiased, industry-standard valuation reports.
Do You Offer Jewelry Insurance?
We don’t provide insurance directly. However, your purchase invoice and diamond grading certificate (such as GIA) are often sufficient for most insurance applications. For higher-value items, insurers generally accept retail replacement appraisals from certified professionals.
To ensure full protection, consider adding a scheduled jewelry endorsement or rider or securing a dedicated jewelry insurance policy, which typically costs around 1%–3% of the item’s value annually. We recommend Jewelers Mutual and BriteCo.
Do you work with gemstones?
Yes! We source and set precious gemstones including high-quality sapphires (including Padparadscha), rubies, emeralds, and Paraíba tourmalines. For daily wear and durability, we also offer semi-precious gemstones with a minimum Mohs hardness of 7 or higher, such as tanzanite or aquamarine. Lower-hardness gems are too soft for everyday settings.
How should I clean my jewelry?
Clean your fine jewelry at home about once a week, or at least once a month if worn less frequently, using Sparkle Sparkle® Jewelry or lukewarm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach, ammonia, or household cleaners that can dull stones or damage metals.
How often should I have my jewelry professionally inspected and cleaned?
We recommend a professional cleaning and inspection at least every 1-2 years, depending on how often you wear the piece. This upkeep helps identify early wear, loose stones, weakened prongs, or structural issues before they escalate.
Are some gems too delicate for home cleaning?
Yes. Pearls, opals, emeralds, and other soft or treated stones should never be soaked or cleaned with ultrasonic or steam equipment. These gems require a gentle wipe with a soft, damp cloth only.
What's the best way to care for metals?
Gold (18K Yellow and Rose, 19K White) and Platinum can be cleaned gently with mild soap and water; avoid chlorine and abrasive cleaners.
How should I store my jewelry?
Store each piece separately—ideally in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box with compartments—to prevent scratching or tangling. Always close necklace clasps and secure loose pieces to prevent damage or
misplacement.
When should I remove my jewelry?
Remove pieces before exercising, cooking, cleaning, swimming, or applying lotions, perfumes, or cosmetics to avoid chemical exposure and avoid dulling or damaging finishes.
Avoid wearing jewelry during impact activities or manual labor to protect gemstones and settings.
*When in doubt always opt to not wear your jewelry to avoid damage.
Can I use an ultrasonic cleaner at home?
Use ultrasonic devices only if appropriate for your specific gemstones and settings. Certain stones and treated gems can be easily damaged. When unsure, it’s best to consult a professional before using one.
Why regular care matters
Fine jewelry is both personal and long-lasting —but it needs care like any other valued asset. Routine home cleaning along with annual / bi-annual inspections help prevent stone loss, maintain structural integrity, and preserve brilliance over time.
Is your jewelry returnable?
Due to the bespoke nature of our work, all Aurelia Atelier jewelry* is custom made to
order and therefore non-returnable and non-refundable.
For Lab Grown Diamond engagement rings, we understand that proposals are a
once-in-a-lifetime moment. To provide peace of mind, we offer a 30-day window
from the date of delivery for return — for store credit only. This courtesy is
designed to protect against rare situations, such as an incorrect style being chosen.
Please note that all returned pieces must be unworn, in their original condition, and
accompanied by their original packaging.
*If there’s a genuine issue with any piece of Lab Grown diamond jewelry (e.g.
incorrect material or sizing ordered by mistake), we will work with you directly to
resolve or remake the piece.
**All Natural Diamond and Precious Gemstone jewelry and engagement rings are
non-returnable and non-refundable.
